Let Go of The New Year's Resolution

As we begin 2023, it can be tempting to set grand New Year's resolutions that are difficult to stick to and often lead to disappointment. Instead, consider setting an intention for the year ahead. This intention can be a word or phrase that you reflect on throughout the year, guiding your actions and helping you stay focused and grounded as you navigate the ups and downs that are sure to come. I do this every year alongside my clients, and I love watching how the word or intention develops deeper meaning as the months go on.

Think about how you want to show up in the world this year. What values do you want to embody? How do you want to approach challenges and setbacks? Setting an intention or finding your word can help you stay true to your goals and find purpose and meaning in the midst of the highs and lows that life brings.

It's also important to recognize that hard things will happen this year, and that it's okay to be flexible and allow your intention to shift and evolve as needed. This is where the power of gratitude can come in. When we cultivate an attitude of gratitude, we can find hope and resilience even in the most difficult of circumstances. By focusing on the things we are thankful for, we can shift our perspective and find joy and meaning in the present moment.

All to say, as you embark on this new year, consider setting an intention or finding a word for yourself rather than a traditional New Year's resolution. This intention can be an anchoring principle that helps you stay focused and grounded as you navigate the highs and lows of the year ahead. And remember: It's okay to be flexible and allow your intention to shift and evolve as needed. By cultivating gratitude, you can find hope and resilience even in the face of challenges and setbacks. Cheers to 2023 and finding your intention!
