About My Clients

My ideal client is trying to finally be who they want to be and they are struggling to figure out how to help themselves balance their gender identity, sexual orientation, values, religious identities, family situation, friendships/chosen family, along with the rest of their life. They want a clinician who will facilitate their learning about feeling their best self, whatever that means to them.

My Background and Approach

I'm very trans and lgbqiqap - affirming. I'm polyamory and kink-friendly and head a group practice with one other awesome clinicial employee (a psychologist named Dr. Camilla Williams who is fluent in ASL and is fabulous). I have a background in Sociology and Human Sexuality studies and pride myself on my warm, supportive, open, and empowering stance. I provide individualized sessions to help clients learn about themselves and heal their emotional pain. Sometimes, talking about a situation can really help clients feel heard and seen. At times though, talking is not enough to make a real transformation in one's life. Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy is a six-phase process to welcome in deep learning about one's self through movement, guided meditation, and a facilitated process of clients talking about and feeling what wisdom their body has to share with the therapist. There is always a choice to go deeper and connect more with one's body and experience or draw away from one's experience.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I'm a queer (in gender and sexuality) white Jew who is a mom from the East Coast making home in the San Diego area. I work hard on my own privilege, especially around race. I am an advocate and, at times an activist, although I don't chain myself to buildings anymore. I do very much enjoy presenting and training therapists to be more trans and LGBQIQA-affirming in their work (in mid Sept. '19, I presented my 1st keynote at Diversity in Parenting conference!) and am a super fan of providing consultation for other counselors. I love helping: people negotiate their faith, religion, and sexuality and/or gender(s) or lack of gender identities, college & university students; helping social justice activists figure out how much they can give without burning out. I love helping clients connect with themselves deeply through talk therapy, EMDR, or Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy.
