About My Clients
I work most effectively with people willing to explore their experiences at a deep level. Many of my clients are ones juggling multiple responsibilities, appear to be "just fine" from the outside, but are struggling inside. I specialize in anxiety, eating disorders, and family dynamics. I have expertise in a variety of issues stemming from difficult experiences in early childhood. I also work with inter-racial, inter-cultural households experiencing challenges in communication.
My Background and Approach
I'm a bicultural, bilingual (Japanese | 日本語) psychotherapist with over a decade of experience working with teens, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds. With both clinical degrees and a research degree, I'm a well-rounded and experienced psychotherapist with additional expertise in Psychological Research. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and also hold a Pupil Personnel Services Credential, a credential required to work as a school-based therapist in California. During therapy sessions I listen respectfully, without judgment, to learn about you and your experience. You’re the expert about yourself. In a warm, supportive, and helpful manner I’ll collaborate with you to explore your experiences, challenges, and goals. In therapy sessions I'm engaged, transparent, and proactive. I will customize therapeutic methods that will best meet your needs and goals and help you move towards your goals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My guiding principle is that every behavior, emotion, and thinking pattern has a meaning and purpose. I believe symptoms are indicators as to what is going on inside. Healing the root issues will make these symptoms become manageable or disappear. Your symptoms are an important part of who you are. They need to be valued and respected. I use them as helpful clues in my therapeutic work with you.
