Counseling can provide vital support and give you the tools and information you need to thrive through this journey to parenthood rather than just wait and survive. With infertility, we often treat the physical factors and neglect the critically important mental and emotional factors needed to get pregnant. By treating the whole person, your chances of conceiving improve and the hardships of infertility are lessened.
Abortion, Pregnancy Loss and Miscarriage are very common experience that are rarely discussed, even with close friends and family or between partners. Stigma and fear of judgement are often the reasons behind this and the associated levels of isolation can feel traumatic. Counseling can help process your feelings around these experiences and guide you towards healing and closure.
Becoming a parent can put an abundant strain on a relationship but reproductive health issues such as infertility, miscarriage, perinatal mood and depression can create severe stress on a partnership. Left unaddressed, these stressors can damage or even break a relationship. However, with support, couples can learn how to communicate about and even support each other through these experiences and even strengthen their relationship as they walk the journey together.
The STORY we tell ourselves about our life, events that happen, and those around us, is much more powerful than you may think. It is your locus of control in life. I use CBT to help clients "flip the script" to one that is more accurate and more helpful, allowing them to get "unstuck", lean into joy and start living the life they want today.
I use my training in the Gottman approach, Brief Emotion-Focused couples counseling and the family systems model to help clients strengthen their relationships while navigating some of the most difficult times in their lives.
I have training and expertise in this approach, blended with other evidence-based brief therapy approaches, that allows us to Gert right to there heart of the issue and make significant progress in a short period of time.
The heart of this approach is emotional self-regulation. Once you master this skill, you can fully use the executive functioning part of your brain to tackle pretty much any challenge you encounter. But when that is off-line due to emotional flooding, you are not able to show up the way you want to in your life and in difficult situations.
