About My Clients
I tend to work with creative, passionate people often deeply involved in their own unique interests. They have often been through very tough experiences as children, adolescents and/or adults. They may not always know how significant those experiences were in shaping who they are today. And they may only feel the negative aspects of themselves. They may not see themselves as survivors and people who can thrive. I work along side them to tell their story so that we can see together their light.
My Background and Approach
My approach to mental health therapy is rooted in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Together we will gently explore thoughts and feelings and how they impact behavior to cultivate new ways of thinking and new ways of engaging with the world. We may also utilize a systems approach to understand your specific life-context within which you manage and cope. We may also use a solution focused approach to help prioritize issues and develop actionable steps to manage immediate concerns. Your feedback is also very important. If something doesn’t work for you, I want to know so that your experience is a positive and effective one.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that therapy does not have to be confusing or intimidating! Everyone deserves to tell their story to someone who will listen with an unbiased, caring and professional perspective. Whether it’s reducing stress and anxiety, navigating relationships, or getting perspective on something that doesn’t feel right, we will name and resolve issues together. I also understand and am committed to cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity. I strive to provide anti-racist and anti-oppressive services with everyone and particularly with our most vulnerable populations, including People of Color, LGBTQIA folks, and people with various, non-culturally dominant, and unique abilities. As a mixed race person, I understand and often struggle with multi-layered systems of identity and oppression. I work hard toward visibility and liberation, but sometimes falter. I am committed to welcoming feedback and recognizing when my approach must change to improve effectiveness for those I serve.
