About My Clients

Are you touched by adoption and need support? Are you straddling two worlds and not fitting in either one? Adoption can be a complex issue. Adoptive parents can be led down different paths with no help. Adoptees can struggle to find someone that understands or how difficulties with relationships or fears are connected to the adoption experience. Transcultural adoptees can look in the mirror and not see a face that matches how they feel on the inside. This is your place for adoption connections.

My Background and Approach

When going through an adoption and trying to learn and do the best job I could as a mom I became fascinated with the neuroscience of how early trauma impacts the brain and development. I was appalled at the lack of resources for adoption that truly helped in my area. So I went back to school to become a therapist and I’ve only studied developmental trauma, attachment and adoption ever since. Seeking knowledge and training in best practices that truly help families. This is not a kid issue or a parent issue. It’s not about all of the responsibility on the adoptee to “fix” themselves or the parents to “fix” them. We are all doing our very best with what we know and what we have been wired to do. We work on the physiological impact of trauma, self worth and attachment relationships in a hierarchy that heals from the foundation up. I have a masters in marriage and family therapy, I am registered play therapy supervisor and a current PhD student in Infant and Early Childhood Development.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe in the beauty and strength of all people. I see children as whole human beings who have big feelings and little power in the world even though they can be very capable. I am not the expert on my clients they are. My job is to come alongside and explore, learn and grow with them - not push or pull them in any direction. I don’t heal you, I help you heal yourself - and you define “healed”. I work with the diagnosis system as it’s necessary in our mental health system yet no one is defined by it in my office. My clients are people first - beautiful, fierce, powerful and capable people. They may not see themselves that way when they come here but I see them that way!
