About My Clients
Most of my clients struggle with thoughts and feelings (usually anxiety and guilt) that seem to feel intrusive, distressing, and require an urgent response. My clients will make mental or physical efforts to relieve the distress but can't find lasting relief. Many suffer in silence as thoughts become too difficult to talk about. Most clients respond well as my treatment approach is specific to the individual and not just a protocol or one-size-fits-all approach.
My Background and Approach
My primary method of treatment is cognitive-behavioral therapy with exposure and response prevention. This is the "gold standard" of treatment for OCD. I also draw from acceptance and commitment therapy, as well as mindfulness and 12-step methodology.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Change is possible. Without a doubt! Just because the last 1, 5, 10, 15, or 20+ years of your life has been a certain way doesn't mean the rest of your life has to. I speak from personal experience and from witnessing the transformations of others. As philosopher Alan Watts has said, "The wake a boat leaves behind does not determine its future path." I strongly believe that a therapist should be flexible and meet the client where the client is at. A client should be able to trust their therapist, not just with information shared, but should be able to trust that their therapist will give the client their full attention, will show up on time, and return their calls, emails, or texts. Most of all, I believe a therapist's core motivation needs to be founded in being of service and helping another fellow human being.
