Emotional eating is a passion of mine. I love helping my clients to understand their relationship to food and the reasons why those relationships can be so difficult to navigate. My approach is to help my clients come to appreciate the comfort that they have needed so much and adaptively learned to find through food, rather than making food the enemy. Once that need for comfort has surfaced, then we can together find alternative options for getting that same comfort.
Many of my clients come for services because they are experiencing anxiety. I provide my clients with practical tools to manage feelings of anxiety and panic, such as mindful breathing exercises and grounding techniques. Once my clients have the tools to manage the symptoms, we delve into the emotional sources for their anxiety so that they can better understand why their body is responding in this way.
I have studied the topic of body image and eating disorders for years. I consistently help my clients to develop compassion for what their bodies hold and have endured throughout their lives. I also help to foster an appreciation in my clients for how their bodies allow them to engage in the world.
I was trained primarily in a Relational approach to therapy. I love the relational approach because it allows the therapeutic relationship to become a place where we can explore the dynamics that are at play in a client's other relationships in real time during the therapy hour, which I believe can be a truly transformative experience.
