DISENFRANCHISED GRIEF:Even though we often think of grief as related to someone’s death, non-death losses (related to relocation, an estranged relationship, health, faith, hopes, etc.) can dismantle life as we’ve known it and disrupt stability in a way that hugely impacts daily life, our relationships, our sense of hope, and even our sense of self. Such experiences can feel confusing and particularly isolating in a society that seldom recognizes the impact of such losses.
EMOTIONAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE: When people talk or think about abuse, attention often focuses on the more visually recognizable manifestations of physical or sexual abuse. But underlying any abuse—physical, sexual, economic, spiritual, or verbal—festers a driving emotional and/or psychological component that involves patterns of usurped power. Isolation, trivializing, and intimidation are just a few of the manipulative methods that can present in personal or professional abusive relationships.
Where trauma is present, reputable means for addressing what just talk therapy can often exacerbate is crucial for finding agency to move forward living your life. Pat Ogden’s Sensorimotor Psychotherapy has been a leading contributor to somatic-based therapy approaches for over four decades. I have completed training and consultation in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma Themes to help you somatically address unprocessed trauma stuck in your body.
