About My Clients
I work with individuals and couples struggling with issues related to trauma/PTSD, low mood, nervousness, and problems sleeping. Additionally, I have experience working with suicide loss survivors, cancer survivors and caregivers, first responders, and Veterans. If you are struggling with depression, nightmares, panic attacks, worry, tension, insomnia, intrusive memories and flashbacks, or low self-esteem I have effective options that can help.
My Background and Approach
Some therapies have been studied a lot more than others, particularly Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Division 12 of the American Psychological Association maintains an active list of the best supported therapies for various mental health problems. When possible, I prioritize use of EBTs when addressing specific, diagnosable issues. I believe that doing so makes for more ethical practice and provides the fastest relief to my clients. That said, the “medical model” (i.e., diagnose and treat) does not always work well in therapy. Sometimes it makes sense to seek therapy for life situations or problems that don’t involve a diagnosis. Common examples include grief & loss, divorce, career change, and low sense of purpose (to name only a few). I believe that both psychological treatment and general psychotherapy are important, and I provide both to my clients.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I consider myself an ally of the LGBTQ+ community and a supporter of the various social movements seeking to bring about increased amounts of social justice and change. I believe that mental health professionals are uniquely positioned to help improve the quality of life of others and take this aspect of my job seriously. In fact, to me, being a psychologist is more than a job, and something that I care very deeply about.
