About My Clients
Bonner conducts therapy with individual adolescents (14+), young adults, and adults of all ages while also providing psychological assessments to individuals age five and up. Bonner began his career working with indigenous health organizations in rural Alaska and subsequently developed comfort and competency working with a wide range of client needs. Bonner also conducts psychological evaluations to provide diagnoses for ADHD, specific learning disorders, and a range of other client questions.
My Background and Approach
Bonner believes that therapy is a laboratory for relational experimentation to help clients find new ways of experiencing themselves and others. While clients may want to find new ways of feeling and behaving, patterns of living can be incredibly difficult to change. Bonner seeks to provide a warm, validating, safe environment where clients can explore their patterns and use the therapeutic relationship to open up new possibilities. For example, exploring the question "what was that like for you to cry (or be silly) with me" can help us explore new ways of relating. While therapy often entails facing and experiencing painful emotions, it is also an avenue for expanding your ability to experience joy, pleasure, and intimacy. My goal is not simply to decrease your pain, though that is a worthwhile effort, but to also explore new horizons of possibility so that you leave therapy a more vibrant, thriving person.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe, and the empirical evidence firmly indicates, that the quality of our relationship will be the biggest predictor of positive therapeutic outcomes. In colloquial language, do you feel like "that guy really gets me!" Our relationship then becomes the foundation for us to explore you and your experiences in all of your complexity so that we can understand and heal the root causes that brought you to me. I am passionate about helping you explore all of who you are and the ways you can leverage your strengths to build the life you want.
