About My Clients
As a therapist of color and daughter of immigrants, I am passionate about working with underrepresented/marginalized populations. I welcome clients of all socioeconomic statuses, racial/ethnic identities, religious backgrounds, gender identities, gender expressions, & sexual orientations. I especially enjoy helping children of first gen immigrants explore how their upbringing, relationship with parents, and experience navigating predominantly white spaces has influenced their current world view.
My Background and Approach
I believe humans are wired for connection, and therefore we all heal in connection. I strive to form authentic relationships with my clients so they feel comfortable sharing their story. I aim to help you examine your current way of relating to others, the world, and yourself, and be curious around whether engaging with the world in a different way may enhance your well being. I also believe humans all have the capacity and drive towards growth.I believe my role as a therapist is to provide a safe, nurturing space for growth. Perhaps when there is safety, a new perspective may be gained and change can occur. I strive to help you reframe supposed deficits into strengths and utilize those strengths to your advantage. Additionally, I am always using the lens of how society and systems oppress all of us who do not fit the status quo. I invite the conversation that it is not YOU that is wrong, but the system.I want to help you explore ways in which you can cope with this messed up system.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Dr. Karyn Purvis said, “the goal is to see the precious child that exists beneath the survival strategies, and to let them know that we see them.” This quote resonates deeply with me. My goal as a clinician is to see every precious, pure child underneath the protective, survival strategies that any hurt adult has had to develop to survive. I do not think any of us actively, intentionally engage in harmful behaviors, unless they serve us or have served us in the past. I am also extremely passionate about dismantling white supremacy, and decolonizing mental health. I am constantly nerding out about deconstructing norms that have been put in place by western society that serve no one. Along with being fiercely anti racist, I strive to create a space that is body inclusive and acknowledges how systems oppress folks in larger bodies. Additionally, I'm generally very interested in integrating non traditional forms of well being to enhance therapeutic processes and personal philosophy.
