Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach helpful for a wide variety of issues. I love to use ACT with my clients! It assumes they have human issues (as opposed to being the issue themselves). With ACT, I help the client find skills and tools to help them find more helpful behaviors, habits, and thoughts. ACT helps clients to live their values.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is like the mental health bread and butter. It is an evidence-based practice that has helped a lot of people. CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts and actions. This can be a helpful connection to discover and address. I like to utilize different CBT skills in combination with other approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or Narrative Therapy.
