About My Clients
I enjoy working with children, adolescents and adults. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, school/behavioral issues, suicide ideation, domestic violence, sexual assault, stress mgmt, family/relationship issues, oppositional defiant disorder, and culture or acculturation issues.
My Background and Approach
I have my LCPC and have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I have experience with individual, family, and group counseling. My goal is to provide support, validation, and encouragement, along with giving my client the tools needed to deal with stress and anything else that's in their way. Therapy is not a one size fits all model, so I tailor my approach depending on the client and his/her need. However I do draw heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered, Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We often are harshest with ourselves; we can be our own worst critic. It's important to be kinder to ourselves and remember that a little self-compassion goes a long way. I often ask clients, what would you tell a friend if he/she was going through something similar as you? We are kind and supportive with our friends. We would never tell our friends, "you're an idiot, you're stupid, you're a loser etc..." We tell ourselves those things. So I tell clients to gauge their self talk by asking themselves, would I say this to a friend? If you wouldn't say it to a friend then you shouldn't be saying it to yourself. I'm also a big animal lover and advocate for animal rights. Pets demonstrate love and loyalty so well and help us get through things. Research has shown the therapeutic benefits that animals bring to our lives. It's our job to take care of them and treat them well.
