My Background and Approach
When we meet for individual therapy I will meet you where you are in your journey. Together, we will create goals and a work plan that will serve us as a map; however, there will be plenty of flexibility to reevaluate where we are going, what is helping (and what is not). I have 12 years of master level experience as a helping professional. I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Texas. As a social worker my training provided not only clinical theory and practice, but also a strong foundation on social justice issues, resource linkage and the helping process which can be applied to a variety of situations and roles outside of therapy. Over the years, I have worked with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and have held roles as a Refugee case manager, prevention specialist (child abuse and teen violence prevention), children's hospital social worker, school-based therapist, and trainer.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Since I was very young I have longed to be useful and helpful in this world by engaging in activities that bring meaning to my life and the lives of others. The work that I do is deeply personal. It is a response to my life’s calling and my sense of social responsibility. I believe that by doing this work I am adding hopeful and meaningful chapters not only to the story of my life but to the legacy of my family and my ancestors. I believe that learning and healing are best approached in a holistic way that recognizes the connection between our physical and mental health, our past and present, our culture, and our worldview/spirituality. I am learning to cultivate my courage and creativity, and I invite you to join me as I support you in leaning into your own courage and creativity in order to increase deeper connection with others and/or yourself and in doing so create a meaningful story together.
