Emotion regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills can help in a wide variety of situations, whether an individual is experiencing distress in the current moment or not. These skills are also helpful for those experiencing anxiety, stress, relationship issues, and panic attacks, to name a few. It helps the individual become mindful and fully present in the current moment, while developing coping strategies for when issues do arise.
I believe people's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors are interconnected and feed into one another. It is helpful to identify one's emotions that impact thoughts and the behaviors that follow. This can be especially helpful for individuals living with depression and/or anxiety by allowing a pattern in the cycle to be discovered, which helps establish coping skills and potential interventions to cease the cycle.
I have a year of experience working with clients with eating disorders in Partial Hospitalization Programs, Intensive Outpatient Programs, and on an outpatient basis. My experience has been primarily with bulimia nervosa, orthorexia nervosa, and compulsive exercise habits. I also led group therapy sessions for adolescent clients to develop and utilize skills for overcoming their eating disorders, as well as process the emotions and challenges they were facing.
In working with clients with eating disorders, one of the most common challenges that came up was struggling with body image. I have experience utilizing activities, explorative therapy techniques, and open processing to discover where one's insecurities derived from, developing effective coping strategies for those insecurities, and working toward body acceptance and body neutrality/positivity. I have some experience with adolescents; however, my main experience has been with adults.
