About My Clients
I help people who fear they'll never be able to quell the anxiety that rises up in their romantic relationships. This kind of anxiety is more common than you might think, and change can happen. The flip side of people-pleasing is avoidance, and avoiding intimacy is every bit as painful as constantly putting other people's needs ahead of your own. I look forward to working with you to overcome the patterns that are keeping you from the life and relationship you want.
My Background and Approach
I work with individuals and couples to identify how their past is affecting them now. The brain is constantly referencing the past when reacting in the present, so adverse experiences from years ago can be intruding on your relationships and on your beliefs about yourself. These adverse experiences may be events that anyone might consider traumatic, or they might not be. Any event that was overwhelming and confusing at the time it happened can become stored in the brain with disturbing emotions and thoughts attached, which in turn can impact how you react today. We will explore what experiences from your past are running your show, and we will work with those memories to deprive them of the power they hold.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the power of stories. The stories we tell ourselves can be the path to seeing ourselves differently and making the kind of changes we want. I am a writer, and a musician, and a former high school literature teacher, and I have worked with many different populations as a teacher and therapist. I hold a special place in my heart for fellow creatives and fellow members of the LGBTQ community. The experience of growing up gay in this world can wreak a special kind of havoc on healthy attachment, and it is my passion to help people learn how to reach for each other, love each other, and love themselves. I look forward to working with you.
