Everyone has things that worry them. This is part of being a human being. The challenge comes when the anxiety gets in the way of us living our lives and interferes with our functioning and our happiness. I am trained in schema therapy, exposure therapy and brief strategic therapy to help address anxiety.
I have worked with people struggling with PTSD from the beginning of my professional career. I have worked in the foster care system and in community mental health where most of the clients I worked with struggled with a variety of mental health issues related to their traumatic experiences particularly traumatic childhoods. I am trained in Trauma Focused CBT and STAIR/NST which is a schema therapy for adults who experienced trauma.
Sex & sexuality are essential parts of who we are. When a person struggles with sexual issues it connects to an essential part of who they are and how they see themselves. Some people experience shame & guilt related to their sexual problems particularly if they were raised within communities where there is a lot of secrecy and shame regarding sexuality, sexual expression & identity. I am currently attending a certified sex therapy program with weekly supervision to provide the best care.
I have worked with individuals struggling with addiction throughout my career. I am trained in motivational interviewing and am well versed in the 12 step recovery fellowships. I have also found brief strategic therapy to be a helpful tool in addressing addictions. Additionally understanding the root struggles that lead to addictions is essential to treating addictions.
I am trained in exposure therapy as well as schema therapy. These approaches really help a person to understand the relationship between their thoughts and behaviors and looking at creating shifts in thinking and behavior in order to create changes in ones life. This is especially helpful when addressing anxiety, depression and OCD.
My understanding of human nature and human interactions is that there are subconscious and unconscious processes particularly related to our earliest experiences that impact our current behavior, thoughts and feelings. By understanding the connections between the past and the present, we have an opportunity to create the changes we want and create the future we want for ourselves.
