It is important to me to create an authentic space for clients to come as they are.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Costa Mesa, CA
I have spent over 5 years learning and working through a family systems lens. My license and education, by nature, are set up to view all cases through a family systems lens.
I utilize several techniques, or ways of approaching change, by creating an atmosphere in session that will foster healing and growth. This may look like allowing emotions to show up in the space we share in session and using that to create a deeper understanding of walking in your shoes and moving through these stories that you may carry with you.
My clinical work has been in settings where evidenced-based therapies are utilized in order to formally track change in treatment. I use this structured approach when people are seeking a more hands on and direct way of creating change.
Caregiving comes in all forms! I have had the honor of working with caregivers since I became a therapist! This is by far one of the most challenging roles one can play. I have worked with a large range of families who have different meanings to what "parents" or "caregivers" may look like. I provide the space for caregivers to show up authentically in order to move through the many emotions that arise when fostering a nurturing environment for their adolescents.
What we do not look at, avoid, minimize, over-play, ruminate over, and run away from will get passed down through our genetics if we choose to become caregivers in any way. The more we unlock our past of where we came from, the more we give our future self and everyone around us the chance to feel loved and connected.
I have worked with adolescents for 6 years in many different settings! I have worked with adolescents diagnosed with autism, learning disabilities, trauma, and mental heath diagnoses (anxiety, relationship injuries, adoptions, divorce, co-parenting, depression, suicide, ADHD, Reactive-Attachment Disorder). I have implemented social-emotional learning in school as well as social skills building with friends and peers.
I acknowledge and recognize the colonial structures that have systemically impacted BIPOC folks, especially Black and Indigenous women+. When working with my clients, I use this systemic lens in order to reduce biases as a White presenting therapist. I collaboratively examine how your external factors such as environment, social, political systems have impacted your lived experiences.
I hold space for families/chosen families to come together and understand their family dynamics in order to build a safe and authentic unit. Repair is important in our healing process and I hope to foster an environment where families are able to understand their role while also allowing space for grief and listening.
I am passionate about working with folks who come from different cultural backgrounds, learning to navigate a love space where they feel safe and valued.
