About My Clients
Have you ever felt that heaviness? Maybe it's not every day or all of the time, but when it hits you, it hits you hard. Perhaps that heavy feeling comes from past trauma, anxiety over keeping it all together, issues in your relationships that leave you feeling unheard or misunderstood. Everything that happens to us leaves an imprint. Your story may seem muddled or complicated, but therapy can help you own your story and take back that control, releasing some of the heaviness that holds you back.
How I Can Help You
I believe in the power of story, so that's why I use a Narrative Therapy approach. I can help you identify those climactic events, those turning points, those supporting characters - things in life that brought you to this point. And since I haven't invented a time machine yet, and you can't go back and change anything, I can help you redefine what has happened, so that you can move forward and heal. With training in trauma, I understand the stain that the past can leave on a person's mindset, and we will work together in healing the part of you that seems stuck. I'm also a big fan of Positive Psychology, because I believe that you are so much more than what's going wrong. That's why I like to focus on "what's strong" to keep that balance and help you build your strengths so you can regain your grip and live your best life story. As a Registered Play Therapist, I've learned the value of play for us all, and I can help you find that playful part of yourself that can be very healing.
My Values as a Therapist
I believe in the human connection, that we all want to be heard. I believe that each of us will experience a struggle (or two or three or seven), but I don't believe that mental health is something that should be kept secret or associated with shame. I've had my own journey with mental health challenges, and part of my healing happened because real-life superheroes made cameos in my life. I believe that a person may try out therapy if they are suffering. Not only do you NOT have to continue suffering, but you also don't have to settle for simply surviving. I believe in getting to a place where you're thriving! I also believe in the power of kindness toward strangers, that afternoon tea can be one of the most healing rituals, and that some of the best connections can happen from a distance. With my soul, I believe that we're all important , we all contribute something amazing to this world, and I am not quiet about being an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, minorities, or anyone stifled.
