About My Clients

Are you currently in a relationship where you're not happy but can't seem to get yourself to leave? Maybe you feel emotionally stuck and have tried leaving only to return to the same unhappy relationship where nothing seems to change. You might feel that you keep entering into relationships where you are treated poorly but can't figure out why. Perhaps you're dating and finding "the one" seems impossible. You feel sad and no one seems to understand. Things can change and I'm here to help!

My Background and Approach

My approach is based both on personal experience as a fellow codependent as well as on my educational background in these areas. We will begin by examining your history and childhood to explore attachment issues from early childhood and messages that you may have internalized as you were growing up. I firmly believe that our history has an affect on us in the present. As we work on exploring this history, we will construct a positive narrative about your life that make sense for you. Understanding your story plays a big part in the healing process. We will try to identify any reoccurring themes in your relationships so that we can begin making changes in your behaviors and thoughts. This may involve some cognitive behavioral therapy. If codependency is an issue we will work together on strengthening your own sense of identity and practicing making your own needs a priority. As your confidence begins to grow relationship difficulties will start to decrease.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that relationships are one of the most fulfilling parts of our lives whether it be close friendships or intimate partners. Relationships are what makes us human and even the most introverted individuals find themselves experiencing the desire to connect. It is not having people near us that keeps us from those deep feelings of loneliness so much as that feeling of connection that we have when another person simply "gets us." Unfortunately, for many of us we have also experienced the heartbreak of relationships that have left us wounded to the point where we may even fear entering into another relationship. This can feel very isolating, but when we learn to interact with others in ways that are kind and caring to others and also respects our own needs, the possibility for enjoyable relationships and improved well being is possible. This is something everyone deserves to experience.
