About My Clients

You're smart and analytical but you can't seem to analyze your way around your painful feelings. So you end up feeling disconnected from others in your life, unsure about how to communicate and assert yourself, and frustrated that you can't think your way out of your problems. In therapy with me, we will tackle your challenges in new ways, with creativity and humor and emotion. We'll recognize your strengths and appreciate how you have learned to take care of yourself.

My Background and Approach

I am an experienced Gestalt and feminist therapist. Therapy with me is interactive, dynamic and focused on your strengths. We have real dialogue with each other and real connection. We talk about what is happening in your life -- and the therapy session -- right now. And we explore how you got to be the way you are and whether there is anything you would like to change. I also help you put your own struggles in the context of what you have learned about yourself from the messages society has given you. We will work hard to create a therapy relationship that is as egalitarian as possible, while recognizing and talking about any power imbalances that arise.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am an anti-racist therapist with a strong commitment to social justice and feminism. As a member of the LGBTQ community, I have particular interest and experience around issues facing people who are queer, transgender or non-binary. I am sex-positive and supportive of kink/BDSM as well as polyamory and open relationships. As a fat person, I know what is like to navigate a world in which we are told to hate our bodies. I use a Health At Every Size approach for my clients and myself. I am neurodiversity-affirming and help clients identify and challenge internalized ableism that makes them feel bad about themselves. I believe that all of us have worth as human beings and I'm good at seeing the worth of my clients, even when they cannot see it themselves. I believe in the power of humans to heal from pain and trauma we have experienced and in the power of therapy to help with healing.
