Trauma doesn't have to be a big, violent event. Trauma is a response to a distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms your ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, diminishes sense of self and your ability to feel a full range of emotions and experiences. I am specialty trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which can dramatically reduce the effects of trauma and improve your view of yourself.

Anxiety and panic can be debilitating. The constant second guessing, racing thoughts, wondering if you've done something wrong and difficulty making decisions can significantly impact your self-esteem. I know because I've been there too. The good news is that there are real tangible skills that you can implement in those moments of overwhelming anxiety. While skills are a necessary part of healing, it is also important to tackle the root cause of your anxiety. I can help with that.

Addiction changes you. Addiction changes the family. Whether you or a loved one is struggling with substance use, I can help. I've worked directly with those struggling with substance abuse for years and I know the impact it has on the addicted person as well as the family. The shame, helplessness, anger, and hopelessness that comes with substance use can be intense. I offer compassion, psycho-education, and hope.

Humans are not wired to be alone. We need some form of connection and relationship. How we connect and interact with others is based on our attachment style, which is developed from early relationships in our lives. The EFT model prioritizes emotion and emotional regulation as the key organizing agents in individual experience and relationship interactions.

The benefits of EMDR go on and on. I am specialty trained in EMDR and have been a participant of it myself, as well as utilized it with many clients. Are there certain memories that still give you that "ew" feeling in your stomach? Do you have recurrent beliefs of not being good enough or that you are damaged? EMDR can help with that. It targets those memories and events, and can help you see and think about them in a more neutral light.

Addiction is so hard on the individual and the loved ones. It can tear those relationships apart. But that doesn't mean they cannot heal. I have four years of experience working at an inpatient drug and alcohol treatment center, and have completed the year long coursework for the Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor certification. I know the impacts of substances on the addicted person, as well as the impact of addiction on spouses, children, and parents.
