About My Clients
My clients are inquisitive and courageous individuals that have taken the first step towards healing and self discovery. He/she/they are survivors of trauma, who have endured immense loss, but remain resilient and hopeful. My clients come from all walks of life and celebrate inclusion and diversity. Together, we will explore our past, accept the present and rewrite the future chapters of our lives. You are enough and I have your back.
My Background and Approach
I graduated from Columbia University nearly 20 years ago. However, I have very humble beginnings and have worked in social services for nearly 25 years in total. My background includes being a forensic evaluator for Family Courts, providing clinical consultations and mentoring to new clinicians and providing psychotherapy to adolescents, individuals and families. I have received training as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, Motivational Interviewer and in Ego-Psychology, but I do not believe in a "one size fits all" modality of treatment. Everyone is unique and so is your journey. As a woman and a therapist of color, I realize that the "evidenced based " treatment models that are promoted by researchers appear limiting. The therapists and clients featured in these studies don't look like me, nor did they necessarily look like the individuals sitting across from me. Self exploration and healing is a non-linear road. Let's travel it together.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
At some point in each of our lives, we are destined to experience an emotional struggle that will challenge us to the very core. Whether it is an unexpected loss of a loved one, a violent assault on our personal safety, a financial setback, and/or a betrayal of trust; we will need that guiding light to navigate our way back to healing and to feel whole again. We are not alone. Support and help is available for those who seek it.
