About My Clients

Feeling confined by the cultural norms. Trapped by the expectation to be one thing while wanting different for yourself. Struggling to balance home, work, kids, a career, family, and the lack of predictability from the past 6 years! Being bicultural sounds like it should open up possibilities and give you a wider sense of who you can become, not the opposite. How did it end up feeling like no matter what, nothing you do will never be right? Somehow, the source of oppression is twice as heavy!

My Background and Approach

I know how difficult it is trying to balance different parts of your life. I know how difficult it is to feel the need to present one side of yourself at work, another at home, and yet another with friends. A comment here, backhanded compliment there, an offensive joke that no one else seems to object to. Career achievements that should be celebrated being overshadowed by cultural norms. And it is even harder when it comes from your own family. This has occurred too many times to people I care about. I became a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor and Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist to help others who are struggling with this find the balance that is right for them. My focus is to advocate for you and create a safe space where you can be your true self with understanding rather than fear of judgement or criticism. I would be honored to assist you in finding the balance that works for you. Being bicultural shouldn't have to be a burden.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that hope can grow in the darkest of times. I know people are capable of amazing accomplishments when push comes to shove. I think mental health issues are a result of learned coping behaviors that we have picked up along the way, but are no longer helping us. Which, in turn, means that I think you can set those behaviors aside and replace them with healthy ones. Trauma has this way of sneaking into every part of peoples' lives and making a mess of everything. Whether it is an offensive joke, hateful gossip, bullying, or the news stories of hate crimes and detention "camps", we are still people and this affects us in so many ways. Many people develop anxiety and hypervigilance, depression, and anger. But there is also an opportunity for growth and healing. You can grow, without allowing the external negativity to ruin you and your happiness. With a safe space created by an understanding therapist, the possibilities are endless.
