About My Clients

Change is not easy. Maybe you want to make a big change or maybe it's about continuing on the path of a change you've already started. You may also not feel completely ready to change. Wherever you are- it's ok. People start therapy for a wide variety of reasons and everyone's path in therapy can look a little (or a lot) different. I can help get you started and we can work together in a way that is meaningful and results in change.

My Background and Approach

My areas of expertise include treating substance use problems, anxiety, and depression as well as helping people transition to difficult life situations. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy for an evidence-based approach to therapy. My work focuses on meeting you where you are with a non-judgmental and collaborative approach. I rely on research, clinical experience, and an understanding of you as an individual to guide our work in therapy. It's important for me to understand what YOU consider to be difficult in your life and what factors contribute to these difficulties. In order to best help you, I also want to understand how different aspects of who you are -like being a woman, person of color, parent- impact your experience of the world. Therapy is tough work and opening up to another person isn't always easy. I'm also a real person and value being authentic and compassionate with my clients.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe people can change and that changing is a process. I value self-growth, not only for my clients but also myself. I view self-awareness and self-improvement as both a professional and personal responsibility. I strive to be more aware of my blindspots- as a White, straight woman having grown up in the middle class- and take action to expand my understanding of experiences different than my own. We live in such a diverse world and one of the things I love most about my psychotherapy practice is working with people different from myself. Now more than ever, we need compassion, openness, and flexibility. These are some of my values and they definitely come through in therapy. Other things that are important to me include my family (I'm a mom of 2 boys) and spending quality time in nature (I love hiking and being near water).
