About My Clients
Someone who is: Motivated to change. The client is willing to put in the work to make changes in their life. They are not just seeking a quick fix, but are committed to the process of therapy.
My Background and Approach
We choose to behave in certain ways and these choices can help or hamper the ability to satisfy essential needs and reach individual goals. I regularly use reality, choice theory, and Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) which is an evidence-based model of therapy that helps people learn and use new skills and strategies so that they build lives they feel are worth living. a client-centered form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that focuses on improving present relationships and circumstances, with less concern and discussion of past events. The behaviors we choose are key to our accountability and who we are. This therapy is less concerned with actual mental health diagnoses; the goal of this type of therapy is to help people take control of improving their own lives by learning to make better choices.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I see value in incorporating an experiential component into sessions and use my experience and training to meet clients where they are and foster an environment of growth and empowerment. I have experience with Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills amongst other areas of speciality such as Anger Management & Conflict Resolution Training, First Responder and Public safety trauma practioner trained & Gottmam couples trained. In my free time, I can be found horse back riding, spending time with my dogs, and loved ones eating raspas at car shows or rodeos. Many elements of my therapy is aimed at teaching patients how to recognize, understand, label, and regulate their emotions and how to handle interpersonal situations that give rise to negative or painful emotions.
