About My Clients
In all honesty, I do not know if there is an 'ideal client' since all clients bring their own unique backgrounds, experiences and hopes to the therapy "room ". During my career, I have been able to work with clients with a variety of mental health, addiction and adjustment issues and I have learned something from each of these clients . I see therapy as a "partnership " in which I am beside the client on his/her/their journey and helping the client to grow into the person they aspire to be.
My Background and Approach
I have extensive experience working with clients with mental health concerns, addiction and adjustment issues, dating back over 12 years . I have worked in community settings, inpatient settings and an university counseling center. Currently , I am being supervised by a supervisor as I near completion of the requirements for my license in the state of Virginia. I have training in working with clients with anxiety , depression and addiction issues. I employ the use of mindfulness techniques including breathwork, guided imagery, visualization and others to help clients learn how to manage their symptoms . Teaching clients how to look at their thinking patterns and how to make changes are part of my therapeutic work .
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My core values include treating others with kindness, respect and empathy. This is the way in which I live my life and defines my approach toward others. As a therapist, I have learned how many people lack a positive or affirming presence in their lives. I stive to be that presence in my role as a therapist. I have an abiding commitment to social justice and equity .
