About My Clients
Children and adolescents often begin therapy when struggling with overwhelming feelings or challenging behavior at home or school. I help children understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how to make changes within that circle of relating. With my teen clients, I establish trust and encourage open talks about emotions, identity, making healthy choices, and trying to understand that delicate balance between independence and connection.
My Background and Approach
I practice from a developmental, psychodynamic framework, integrating techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, attachment theory, family systems, and mindfulness. My extensive experience in schools affords me particular expertise with respect to issues faced by school-age children. I often times work with children who are sensitive, anxious, reactive, intense, creative, and who sometimes struggle with self-regulation. I’m also aware of the specific support needed for gifted, talented, and twice exceptional (2e) children. I’m a big proponent of arts in education, and having a performing arts background myself, I understand firsthand the protective factors the arts can offer as well as the clinical and developmental considerations when counseling talented young people.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I use a collaborative, interactive approach that is tailored to individual needs. Through regular sessions in a safe, confidential environment, kids and families can gain clarity into counterproductive patterns that are not serving them well, and find ways to shift towards healthier more effective behaviors to create lasting change. I am a culturally competent therapist and supporter of anti-bias, anti-racism work.
