About My Clients
My clients tend to be sensitive, intuitive, creative, conscientious, animal-loving, empathetic, deep thinkers. They are also typically burdened by daily overwhelm and overstimulation, anxiety, shame or low self esteem. These symptoms often result from exposure to trauma and from compulsive unwanted behaviors such as skin picking and hair pulling.
My Background and Approach
As a warm and down-to-earth therapist, my approach is to offer a non-judgmental space where you can unpack and heal from the painful parts of your life so that you don’t have to carry that weight forever. I'll ask good questions and offer insight to help you address current challenges or long-standing issues. You’ll never feel like you’re talking to a “blank wall”. I specialize in areas that I’ve had personal experience with, so I really get it from the inside out. My combined 15 years of experience in inpatient, outpatient, medical, forensic and educational settings have been centered on supporting a wide range of people in every stage of life, from various racial & ethnic backgrounds, income and education levels and diverse sexual and gender identities. I've volunteered my time at a safe house for survivors of human trafficking, various homeless shelters across the Bay Area, and with the Red Cross. Education: SFSU (BA in Child Development), Smith School for Social Work (MSW).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I’ve always had commitment to social justice, and to becoming aware of and confronting my own biases. I believe that healing ourselves is an integral aspect of fighting to improve the world around us. I am an active member of the LGBTQ community, the Highly Sensitive Therapist community, and the Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRB) community. I believe in science and use up-to-date, evidence-based treatments in my practice. I am a Certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist. Additionally, I have advanced training in Attachment-Focused EMDR which is an exciting new healing modality for sufferers of early childhood neglect, abandonment and prolonged trauma.
