I am a cis-female Latinx therapist with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field.
Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in Austin, TX
Supervised by Wanda Montemayor, LPC-S-AT, ATR-BC
As a person from a marginalized community myself, I work on navigating my own biases and systemic issues. With that said, whether our backgrounds align or not, I recognize that our experiences are not monolithic. I am committed to staying informed on the dynamics of cultural and systemic oppression and honor each client's background so that they do not feel as though they need to spend energy educating me.
Prior to becoming a licensed clinician, I worked for the National Domestic Violence Hotline for over 6 years. I provided support to those navigating intimate relationships as well as provided education and helpful tools depending on the person's needs and situation.
I have worked with teens and young adults in many areas such as in residential (for those struggling with eating disorders), schools, foster care, and individually through private practice. My focus is on the needs of the clients and their goals. Whether it is navigating change, emotions, anxieties, or your relationship with your body; I use a person-centered approach that is creative and warm.
I have a specialization in Art Therapy and use a variety of creative expression in addition to traditional talk therapy. Creative expression can often offer another outlook to a problem or provide insight when it is difficult to describe in words; However, art directives are always an invitation during session and never something that is expected.
