I'm Trauma-Informed Expressive Arts Therapist with a passion for using the arts, play, humor, and connection as vehicles for transformation.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Sonoma, CA
Expressive Arts Therapy is inclusive of all modalities of art in a therapeutic context for deepening connection, healing, self-awareness, and growth. Modalities of art include visual art (drawing, painting, collage, clay and sculpture, etc.), music and sound, dance/movement, drama, poetry, and many more. The arts offer a new lens with which to view one’s life, relationships, challenges and triumphs and can bring forth insight and meaning that may not come as easily from traditional talk therapy.
I have worked in school, home, and community-based settings for the last 10 years, working with kids on the Austin spectrum. I have training in Applied Behavior Analysis as well as psychotherapy and other social-emotional learning practices geared towards students with Autism, developmental differences, and special needs.
The teenage years are a time of transition, exploration, and identity formation. Teens are bombarded with expectations from school, friends, and the internet around who they’re supposed to be and how they should fit in. The pressure to define oneself and make decisions about who they are and what the present and the future hold can be overwhelming, to say the least. Teens need to feel they can safely explore all of the the trials and tribulations that come with being a young person today.
Our healthy relationships with ourselves and with others later in life begin with our relationships with those who have raised us or been in our lives since the very beginning. How we connect with our attachment figures, or caregivers, sets the tone for how we relate to others throughout our lives. Attachment impacts our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and overall wellness. If there is an attachment wound, we must attend to it and let the healing begin, so we can live a most fulfilling life.
While I may work with you as an individual, I see you in the context in the family and cultural system in which have been raised and/or are currently a part of. I also believe that when treating children and adolescents, the family must be included in order to create an environment of supportive communication and love, so the child may reach their highest potential. I help parents to better understand the needs of the child and to communicate with them in a meaningful way, strengthening bonds.
Our world is unpredictable and change is often the only constant. Do you struggle with stress, worry, overwhelm, or feelings of inadequacy? Do you feel stuck and tired of the way things are? Are you in a major life or relationship transition and unsure about how to navigate through the muck? If you’ve answered “Yep, that’s me!” to any of the above, I am here to help. I will help you stand strong in your strengths and sit with you in the mess, equipping you with the tools to weather any storm.
