About My Clients
My primary work is done with African American women and teen girls dealing with depression, mood disorders, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, self Harm, and adjustment related issues. My non-judgmental approach & techniques, can help you set boundaries, cope, and heal yourself. I enjoy helping people dig deep, change patterns, and heal themselves.
My Background and Approach
Throughout the course of my career, I've worked in residential treatment, Higher Education (student development), and college counseling. This led to the development of my own private practice, in which I'm able to give special attention to marginalized populations in a therapeutic environment. I regularly speak and present on mental health, single parenthood, motherhood, child development, bullying, and boundaries. My focus includes anxiety and depression and the impact of race and gender in the lives of my clients. Not only is my approach trauma-informed, but it is also social justice informed. I enjoy looking at family history and try to treat clients with more of a psychodynamic approach, really looking at my clients' different needs. It's important to me to meet my clients where they are and help them through the process As a social worker, I also supervise and train other social workers seeking independent licensure.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I want you to leave with the ability to cope in healthy ways when facing life's challenges and changes. Everyone has a a hard time dealing with negative emotions, adjusting to life changes such as motherhood, divorce, career changes; I'm here to help you get through it all. As women we are usually the last on our list but I am a firm believer in putting us first because we're usually taking care of others. Your anxiety and depression doesn't have to rule your life. I believe in having the conversation to release you from the junk that you carry from day-to-day. I am an anti-oppression informed practitioner.
