Classes Completed: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: 2-Day Intensive ACT Training, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression, Anxiety, Phobias and Panic Attacks. These two modalities (ACT and CBT) are at the top of my list for teaching the skills of managing thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
I've worked at primary care clinics with a focus on Integrated Behavioral Health (Iora Health, and Legacy Medical Group). Integrated behavioral health is focused short term brief interventions. This modality is great for clients who want to work on a specific issue. It is goal oriented and focused on what is concerning the client in the present moment. The clients strengths are assessed and incorporated into the treatment. Sessions can be brief or intermittent.
Completed the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: 2-Day Intensive ACT Training. ACT, CBT and mindfulness are at the top of my list for teaching the skills of managing thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Using metaphors in teaching ACT skills can help clients use the concepts when they are not in the session. Discussing and clarifying values is key when learning about how clients want to change and why.
I've taught mindfulness based practices and also participate in mindfulness practices almost daily. The benefits of the mindfulness is often noticed when we're not in a formal practice. Learning to respond rather than react can helpful in prevent conflicts. It can also lead to more successful conversations and interactions. We can also us mindfulness to get better at knowing when and how to engage or not engage in a situation.
Sometimes our brain misinterprets situations and perceives danger. Our brains also tends to get efficient at certain thoughts, feelings and behaviors. With our brain misinterpretations and brain efficiency we can experience uncomfortable bodily sensations that are known as the fight/flight response. I teach clients how to activate the rest and digest response so that the brain can be correctly informed: "There is no danger, I am safe.".
My website is Growthminding.com because I focus on tools that help us grow. Neurogenesis and neuro-plasciticy enables us to create new pathways for change. We can process emotions in our mind and body, change our narratives, drop old believes that no longer serve us, take on new values and beliefs, and therefore be more kind and compassionate to ourselves and others. Guilt, Shame, and Anxiety block our core emotions. We are able to access these emotions and feel ourselves again.
Stress affects affects our physical health, cognitive functioning, sleep, behaviors, and emotions. We can't change everything in life but we can lessen the impact stressors have for our brain and body. It is worthwhile to take advantage of evidence based stress management practices . We can learn about these practices and create space between the stressors and the reactions. You can recover faster from stress to be able to continue to do what you enjoy doing.
