About My Clients
My adult clients are entrepreneurs creating new businesses, visionary CEOs and senior VPs, artists (writers, journalists, film makers, dancers, visual artists, designers, musicians, animators, game designers, etc.), healers (doctors, counselors, and social change makers). Gifted teens may be challenged by expectations of high performance, problems socializing, and anxiety around transitioning into college and adulthood. (LGBTQ/poly welcomed.)
My Background and Approach
I practice counseling as a means of expressing love, integrating holistic techniques from humanistic & transpersonal psychology, family systems, dreams, visualization/imaginal reality, cognitive restructuring/CBT, & EMDR to heal trauma, negative self-beliefs, and problematic relationships. I earned a BFA & MFA in art, taught for 18 yrs, & developed my art career. Folks recognized my talent for healing, so I pursued my 2nd love - psychology, earning an MA, a graduate certificate in the psychology of creativity, then deepened my knowledge and skills during my doctoral studies. I studied EMDR and pain management at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. I can help you feel less isolated, gain insight, clarify goals, enhance communication, build healthy relationships, lessen stress, gracefully move through change, manage social pressures, & heal from the past. Specialties: Intellectually gifted, creative, artistic Trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD Abuse Pain, chronic illness
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Politically, I am socially progressive. As a researcher, I study contemporary artists as shamans, looking at how shamanic artists provide healing for individuals and societies, with publications and conference presentations. I was initiated as a shaman by 3 Korean mudangs and I sang in a gospel choir, although I do not identify as Christian. My clients are Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, animist/pagan, highly spiritual, and atheist. I recently published an article about life in the time of BLM and covid-19, available here: http://societyforritualarts.com/coreopsis/autumn-2020-issue/our-time-of-coronavirus-and-black-lives-matter/
