Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a foundational approach for many therapies. It influenced many other popular approaches such as dialectial behavioral therapy and acceptance and committment therapy. Many people find the CBT focus on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to be a great way to address stress and anxiety in their lives.

I have extensive experience working with individuals dealing with addictions. I use a motivational interviewing and harm reduction approach. I also address the impacts of shame and intergenerational substance misuse that often impact clients. No client WANTS to be addicted or misuse substances. I helping clients learn different ways of understanding and interacting with the world so that the disconnection of substances no longer holds the same appeal.

My experience as an individual who identifies as female, has grown up in patriarchial cultures, and has extensive education about feminist theory allows me to be an expert in the use of feminist therapy. Patriarchial structures impact our experience in this world and greater understanding/analysis of that impact helps us be more purposeful in how we choose to interact with or challenge those structures.

Working with individuals dealing with depression requires a thorough understanding of their past and present. Are there experiences or things they have learned about the world that add to their depression? Is there something in the environment that needs to change for someone to function well in it? I use a trauma-informed approach along with harm reduction and motivational interviewing to support my clients in identifying behaviors that no longer serve them well and finding new ways of approaching their lives that allow them to fully engage with the world around them.
