About My Clients
Have you been carrying a heaviness with you for a long time? It may be from one single traumatic event, many instances, or maybe you can't identify the source at all. Nevertheless, it's affecting your current life by bringing up feelings such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I would like to be of support. I have worked with clients from preschool-age to folks in their 80s. Many of my clients have no prior experience with counseling or have felt disillusioned by it in the past.
My Background and Approach
My experience thus far has led me to clinical work around grief, chronic illness, childhood issues, and trauma. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, and I have particular interest in supporting folks living ace/aro spec identities. My style is humanistic, person-centered, and trauma-informed. This means that the therapy will go at your own pace and comfort level. I draw from various modalities, including DBT, existential, family systems, Jungian, and psychodynamic theories. Liberation psychology and cross-cultural psychology have been very influential for me as well. In addition to talk therapy, I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, play therapy, sandplay, & other expressive modalities.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I recognize that the psychology practiced in the U.S. comes from a Euro-centric tradition, and is influenced by societal and cultural factors that serve those in power. I believe that all health practitioners have a responsibility to question the source of paradigms and not contribute to harm by perpetuating them. In my practice, I strive towards re-centering marginalized voices and acknowledge systemic issues that contribute to suffering. I live and work on unceded land of the Chumash people, and offer acknowledgement and respect to Elders past, present, and future.
