About My Clients
Some challenges that clients bring to our work include anxiety, depression, gender exploration, sexuality, grief/loss, relationships issues, workplace issues, and life transitions. I enjoy working with individuals and couples/non-monogamous partnerships. I have specialized training and experience working with LGBTQIA+ clients and current and former athletes.
My Background and Approach
My therapy style is influenced by psychodynamic theories, relational psychotherapy, attachment theory, contemplative psychology, somatics, and social justice theories. My approach is eclectic and client centered, meaning I tailor my work with each client to their unique strengths and challenges. I believe you are the expert on your experiences, and my role is to collaborate with you to create the healing environment and structure that will best serve you. I have worked in many different settings including community mental health, college counseling, private practice, sports organizations, and contemplative-based outpatient settings. More information about my training and background is available on my website (http://www.ellielipton.com).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Foundational to all of my work is the belief that individual pain is rarely isolated from other factors like structural oppression, family dynamics, work and family expectations, etc. I believe that relationships, including the therapy relationship, have transformative power and that therapy can be a space of enormous growth and healing. Our early experiences of relationships and attachment tremendously impact how we relate to the world, and through exploring those relationships we can create new narratives and ways of being that are more fulfilling, reciprocal, and safe.
