About My Clients

Hi, I'm Elliot! As a Korean-American, I faced various cultural, social, and economic challenges growing up. Working through these issues, I came to experience first-hand healing and growth that I now seek to share with my clients.

My Background and Approach

These transformative years formed the building blocks of my approach. I believe all our experiences are filtered by our senses of who we are and how we relate to ourselves. Ask yourself: How harsh or gentle is the voice you use to talk to yourself? How different would the world be if that voice that follows you all around were more compassionate and understanding? Yet, the truth is that my sense of who I am is also bound up with others' perceptions: I learn how to love myself from being loved. I learn gentleness from being addressed gently. And I grow and heal when I hear words that understand and water me. Not some cheap, made-up words, but words born from genuine, heart-to-heart engagement. That's why I am here. I am eager to listen in order to discover resources already present in your life, to witness the obstacles and challenges you've overcome, and to tell you that your feelings and longings make sense. Together, we can discover new ways of experiencing yourself.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

"When a therapist can maintain a larger awareness of the client's inherent goodness and well-being, while allowing him to go through whatever he needs to go through to arrive at this awareness himself, this provides a model for how a client can begin to trust himself. In discovering his own greater heart and mind, a client begins to connect with his own wisdom, which helps him see that he is much larger than the stories—good or bad—he tells about himself. Yet for the client to make these discoveries, it is essential that the therapist have this kind of trust himself, not as an article of belief, but as a living experience." - From Awakening the Heart: East/West Approaches to Psychotherapy and the Healing Relationship edited by John Welwood
