Through my cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) training I know about the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Feelings can feel impossible to control, but our thoughts and behaviors can be more manageable. Sometimes we think something and believe it to be true, even if not entirely accurate. During therapy I will teach you how to be more aware and thoughtful of your thinking patterns to correct unhelpful thinking and behaviors so that is has a positive impact on your self image.
Before I became a therapist I was an addiction counselor. I then spent several years addressing both mental health and addiction issues in the community. Perhaps you don't feel there is a problem with your substance use but are required to seek treatment due to DUI or other circumstances. Maybe you do feel there is a problem and are ready for change. Either way, I'm here without judgment to help your on your journey.
You are angry. I understand. There is probably a reason! I'm not here to tell you not to feel what you feel, you are entitled to those feelings! What I can do is help you feel more responsible and in control of your reaction to that anger. If anger has caused problems in your life at you work, personal life or legally, I can help.
I'm trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy, a CBT based treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for various traumatic experiences. This is a structured therapy with homework that lasts about 3 months.
CBT looks at how your thoughts, feeling and behaviors interact. It focusses on correcting unhelpful thinking patterns and beliefs that negatively impact your mood. Many research studies show that CBT has a positive impact on changes to mood and quality of life. In therapy you will learn tools and skills so that you effectively become your own therapist.
Before I became I therapist I obtained a certificate in addiction counseling and have spent the last several years assisting individuals with substance use and mental health concerns. My experience includes working with individuals who are mandated by the courts for therapy.
