Emily Schumacher (she/her)

Having worked in an addictions facility, college campus, and in community mental health, I have diverse training in a multitude of presenting concerns. Through a trauma-informed approach, I hope to create a safe space for you to process and recover, whether it be from abuse and neglect, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, or to learn new coping skills. I have experience and training in mindfulness-based interventions, trauma-focused therapies, multiculturalism counseling, creating and co-facilitating a support group for LGBTQ+ identifying individuals, behavioral therapies (e.g., Cognitive-behavioral therapy), as well as expressive arts and music. The relationship building stage of therapy is important to me, as I aspire to tailor my therapeutic approach to your needs and find what best fits your personality, history, culture, and lifestyle.

I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas but have lived here in Washington state since 2018 with my husband and our fun-loving Blue Heeler, Michonne (who may make an appearance from time to time). Growing up, I had noticed just how much mental health deeply impacted my loved ones and even myself at times, which led me to my love for this field. Being a person of color myself, I understand what it’s like to go through areas in life feeling unsafe, uncomfortable, and just unsure where to turn. It is essential to have an environment built on trust and security to help you heal, and also to thrive. Reaching out for help is a major accomplishment, so I would be fortunate to walk with you through every step of the way.
