Managing personality disorders can be really overwhelming. It is overwhelming for the individual as well as family and loved ones. I assist clients in managing personality disorders, primarily borderline personality disorder (BPD), through an intervention known as DBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. We work together and learn skills like mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy was originally developed to help individuals suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder, but I believe that these tools can help all of us. We work to integrate skills with a foundation of mindfulness to slow down and understand what is happening in the moment. That is where you can start to gain back your power and take control over your response.
I utilize CBT tools not only in the therapy setting, but in my own life. In therapy, we will work together as a team to build skills to help manage depression and anxiety through challenging and reframing thoughts. CBT allows us to increase awareness of anxious and negative thinking so that you can handle stress.
