Managing personality disorders can be really overwhelming. It is overwhelming for the individual as well as family and loved ones. I assist clients in managing personality disorders, primarily borderline personality disorder (BPD), through an intervention known as DBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. We work together and learn skills like mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy was originally developed to help individuals suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder, but I believe that these tools can help all of us. We work to integrate skills with a foundation of mindfulness to slow down and understand what is happening in the moment. That is where you can start to gain back your power and take control over your response.

I utilize CBT tools not only in the therapy setting, but in my own life. In therapy, we will work together as a team to build skills to help manage depression and anxiety through challenging and reframing thoughts. CBT allows us to increase awareness of anxious and negative thinking so that you can handle stress.

Do you feel paralyzed by fear? Fear of making a 'wrong' decision or fear of losing someone you care about? We work together to explore your anxiety triggers, thoughts and beliefs. Then we find healthy coping strategies to manage, challenge, and reframe that anxiety so that you can live your best life.

Do you have trouble with people pleasing? Always focusing on external issues or everyone else’s issues which leads to you ignoring your own needs or being able to care for yourself? I can help! We will work together to understand your relationships throughout your life to understand what led you to this place and work to chip away to build healthy boundaries and how to learn or relearn how to care for your own needs and wants.

Person-Centered therapy works to empower you and motivate you in the therapeutic process. Instead of viewing you as flawed, person-centered therapy focuses on your ability and desire for change and personal growth. Focusing on compassion and a nonjudgemental approach, you can focus on your journey of self-discovery and find your own solutions.

Trauma is hard to cope with and sometimes in order to cope, we come to harmful conclusions about ourselves to try to make sense of the horrible things that happen. These thoughts are often shame and guilt based. We work together to explore and process trauma.

I utilize Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to help process and explore trauma and thoughts related to trauma. CPT is typically spread over 6-24 sessions (usually around 12 sessions). CPT teaches you how to evaluate and change the troubling thoughts you have had since your trauma.
