About My Clients
You’re looking for the right therapist to help. You’re overwhelmed and exhausted. The worries, what-ifs, and and wonderings are just too much to handle. You’re sick of the tears, tantrums, and terrible nights. You wish this anxiety would just leave you alone. Sometimes you think that these fears are normal, but recently school is getting harder, friendships are falling apart, and life at home is so stressful you could cry. You want to find someone who can help you make a change!
My Background and Approach
My name is Dr. Erika Vivyan, and I became a Licensed Psychologist in Texas because I want to help kids, teens, and young adults to grow into confident, happy humans. I studied Psychology, Arts & Humanities, and Educational Studies at Michigan State University before completing my Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. All that means is that I have been studying and practicing how to help kids with their biggest fears – like going to school, making friends, and messing up – for YEARS. I have received formal training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Parent Management Training (PMT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I use these strategies to provide flexible, customized, and evidence-based treatment to guide you to the changes you want to see.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I personally believe that each individual human is unique, wonderful, and flawed. I also believe that we are all doing the best we can with the information and resources that we have. This guides my work with folx of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, disabilities, body types, health statuses, and socioeconomic statuses that I have had the joy of encountering. My journey into social justice began with examining my white privilege growing up in the suburbs of Detroit and quickly developed into a passion for understanding how other social identities impact our lives and the systems in which we participate. I wrote a curriculum for my K-12 school district that is now required social justice education for students in the state of Michigan. I was a camp counselor for trans and genderqueer folx as a cisgender woman. I thoroughly enjoy learning about and from people who have different experiences from my own, as well as connecting on our shared humanity and hope.
