About My Clients
Are you feeling disconnected and distant in your relationships? Has the internet and social media taken over as where you go to not feel so lonely? Do you feel anxious and sad much of the time? In this busy world where we are constantly bombarded with tragic news and at the same time trying to feel connected, it can feel overwhelming. I've been there myself... By learning to think about yourself and all that is handed to us emotionally, we can feel content and at peace again. I can help.
My Background and Approach
Everyone has times in their lives... well...it just gets complicated! When we are feeling lonely, disconnected or just plain old anxious and angry it can help to talk with someone who understands. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 18 years of experience working with individuals, couples and families during those difficult times in life. I use an integrative approach that draws from several different approaches to therapy like cognitive behavioral therapy, emotionally focused couple's therapy, trauma-focused therapy, solution-focused therapy, and other systemic approaches. I received my bachelor's degree from Mars Hill University, majoring in psychology. My master's degree is from East Tennessee State University in counseling/marriage and family therapy. I am also an AAMFT approved supervisor and have been an adjunct instructor at ETSU. I am the owner of and president of Kingsport Counseling Associates, PLLC, a group practice located in Kingsport, TN
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
One of the unique things about me is that in addition to my work as a therapist, I also happen to be a clergy person in the Episcopal Church. My faith journey has truly shaped who I am. But that being said, my approach to therapy DOES NOT have a "religious agenda". Religious beliefs or even having none is a personal decision. I think each person needs to find their own path and one that fits for them. I do identify as a heterosexual but I am very much an advocate of LGBTQ issues and feel that ALL people need to be treated with kindness and compassion. We all have an innate desire to connect with others; we love who we love. I also am an advocate for helping people get the help they need. That's why we offer a sliding scale fee for those who either do not have insurance or other benefits that would cover mental health care. I am married and we have one adult daughter. I love to backpack, fly fish, work in my yard and garden, and good scotch and cigar every now and then...
