Depression is an condition that affects so many, but it is easy to feel alone and lost during a depressive episode. Family members don't understand how to help, friends may feel abandoned, and it is a struggle every day to function. There is hope and it is possible to heal from depression. Psychotherapy has been proven to be an effective treatment for depression across the lifespan.
Stress is a normal part of life. School, work, family obligations, big events, life transitions- stress is a common tagalong for all of these things. However, when stress becomes all-consuming and affects important activities of daily life like sleep, focus, and appetite, or causes physical symptoms like headaches, hives, and digestive issues, it may be time to seek therapeutic support for stress management.
Similar to stress, anxiety is a normal part of life. When faced with obstacles, adversity, or transitions, it is common and even expected to feel anxious. However, if anxiety begins to feel overwhelming and causes a major disruption in your life and your ability to function normally, you may need to seek help from a professional.
I know that my clients have the strength and ability to find solutions to their current situation and it is my job to help them identify those strengths and realize their potential. Focusing on goals and ways to achieve them is a central theme to my therapeutic approach.
Mind, body, and spirit are all equally important in healing. Mindfulness focuses on increasing awareness of our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in order to better understand our whole self and how we are fully experiencing the present moment. Once this understanding is grasped, then we can move forward in adjusting our thoughts and emotions to create the desired outcome.
Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are all connected and each one affects the other. In order to change the negative emotions and behaviors that we are experiencing, we must realize the role our negative thought processes play. Once negative thought patterns are identified, I work with clients by giving them tools to change these patterns to be less distorted and more positive and realistic.
