Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Seal Beach, CA
I started making the transition into mental health when I began volunteering with The Trevor Project in 2016. Since I began my internship in 2019, more than half of my clients have been LGBTQ+ from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds. Additionally, I am a person of lifelong queer experience.
During my internship at a youth shelter, roughly half of my clients were either immigrants themselves or came from immigrant families. When I briefly worked in community mental health, I got the opportunity to volunteer at a youth shelter camp in San Diego for migrants from Central America. I also have close loved ones who have immigrated from Mexico whom I treasure.
For me, feminist therapy is less of a set of interventions and more an overall approach I take with all clients, regardless of gender identity. We discuss systemic oppression and inequality and how it affects you. We discuss ways to increase autonomy and take back power. We work towards building community.
I have received extensive training in DBT and find it very useful for my clients who love homework. My favorite part about DBT is the idea that we can practice both acceptance and change. I also love the incorporation of mindfulness.
I fell in love with EMDR in 2017 when I first began my grad program. Since becoming trained in it in 2023, I have started to see how this very different approach helps folks move through trauma. I am incredibly passionate about EMDR and am working towards full certification.
