Childhood is a time of life that is marked by change, confusion, and excitement! Sometimes these normal childhood events can evoke unmanageable stress. Other times, an abnormal event, such as trauma, occurs and wreaks havoc in the life of a child. I work with children to overcome emotional stress that stems from both "normal" and "abnormal" events, using play therapy, family therapy, and trauma-informed therapy.

I have experience working with teens facing a variety of challenges, such as depression, anxiety, stress, life transition, and trauma symptoms. I use a variety of techniques including TFCBT, Mindfulness, and DBT to help teens achieve their goals in therapy.

I help clients to think critically about their presenting concerns through CBT techniques. I provide practical tools that allow my clients to recognize how to get un-stuck from their unhelpful thinking patterns.

The primary language of children is play - this is where the therapeutic magic happens! In play therapy, children are given the freedom to express their uniques needs, emotions, thoughts, and fears through the symbols that make the most sense to them - toys. Through sandtray, creative arts, imaginative play, and story telling, children are able to express their emotions, work through difficult memories, and gain mastery over their unique story.

I am trained in providing Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for teens and children. TFCBT is a structured approach to managing the difficult symptoms and emotions that follow a traumatic event. In TFCBT, the client lays a foundation for learning and implementing coping skills, identifying trauma triggers, and finding emotional safety. The client becomes desensitized through the re-telling of their unique story and gradually reduces the intensity of their symptoms.

I am trained in EMDR therapy across the lifespan. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is an experiential therapy that has proven benefits for both adults and youth. EMDR can be utilized for all kinds of concerns, including traumatic events, painful memories, grief, and day-to-day stressors.

I am trained in EMDR and TFCBT, two evidenced based approaches to treating PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. I have experience in working with single-incident trauma, sexual abuse survivors, attachment trauma, and bereaved children who have lost a primary caregiver.
