About My Clients

Perhaps you feel disconnected from your own life or desires. At times, your mind is so busy that you struggle to stay present. You're stuck in unhelpful patterns. Change may feel threatening. It's difficult to understand your own feelings and thoughts, or to communicate them to others. You feel lonely and long to be seen. I serve adults of all ages and identities, and these are some common themes in my work. I can help you unpack your experiences, build helpful skills, and create a valued life.

My Background and Approach

I have a Master's degree in Community Counseling from Seattle University and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington. I have specific training in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), but I like to pepper in concepts and skills from a wide variety of clinical styles, such as RO-DBT. As a former English major, I'm fond of vivid imagery and metaphor, and any kind of meaning-making is interesting to me. I also have experience in sex education and I am a sex- and body-positive therapist. First and foremost, I am a client-centered therapist; as such, I draw on these and other modalities flexibly, in order to best serve your individual needs. I will always endeavor to hold compassionate, non-judgmental space for you, while simultaneously challenging you to grow into the person you want to be, and the life you want to live.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that we are taught things from a very young age that encourage self-doubt, and divorce us from our innate wisdom. In particular, we are discouraged from cultivating healthy relationships with our feelings, with our bodies, with sex, and with one another. I believe that even difficult emotions are worthy of attention and respect. I believe that we are all capable of change, and that we each deserve compassion, acceptance, rest, and even joy. Many of our problems are related to the experiences and cultures that have shaped us, yet we still have the power to create lives that are rich with meaning and value, whatever our context. I believe that some of my identities afford me certain privileges, of which I strive to stay aware. I regard myself as a perpetual student, always learning. I am invested in promoting sex positivity and body acceptance, and practicing anti-racist therapy, which I consider to be lifelong processes rather than goals I can check off.
