About My Clients
My experiences growing up in the immigrant community best shows up in the therapeutic setting in the form of respect, acceptance, collaboration, and awareness of societal pressures. I see my clients as experts in their own life experiences, and my roles is simply to walk with them as they find their own answers to life's challenges.
My Background and Approach
I believe change happens when we honor people's stories and life experiences. This is reflected in my counseling approach, which is client-centered, collaborative, trauma-informed, and integrative in nature. What this means is that I will work closely with clients to develop and approach that will promote growth, and is best suited for individual needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Two of the biggest influences in my therapeutic approach are my experiences as part of the immigrant diaspora and my Latino/e cultural upbringing. One of the cornerstones of my personal view on the world can be best explained by the Mayan concept of In Lak’Ech, loosely translated to “If I love and respect you, I love and respect myself.” I believe this concept most accurately describes the power of community and commitment that can be represented through counseling. I have seen how it has improved the lives of those around me and in my community, and I wish to continue that work through therapeutic relationships.
